Hi, Jordi and Joan,
My thanks to both of you and Can Costa for allowing the access and photos into the Folch collection. The Kongsberg silver and the Red Cloud wulfenite are a pair of my favorites. You are right, the wulfenite would have showed itself well at Tucson this year.

I would love to join the group to see the collection, but unfortunately, my next few trips aren't in the direction of Spain. As you remember, Jordi, I had to turn my pockets inside out when I visited you in Barcelona in 2007, but I escaped with a very fine Ilfeld manganite to show for it, as well as the rutile in quartz. Another year, perhaps...

Question: Is there any chance of seeing any photographs of exceptional minerals from either Mexico or Idaho?

best regards,

Hi Tony,

With Ste. Marie show not so far, we have not too much time right now. When we have the chance, we will visit again the collection and we will do more photos of several specimens. Mexico will be on our choice, for sure, because is a lot of great Mexican material there, but not so sure about Idaho.
Anyway, although slowly, we will try to offer here an extended display of the best specimens of the collection.

Jordi

Hi all, I'm new on the board.
Could anyone give me a more detailed locality for that malagasian tsavorite ?
I have a similar tiny specimen in my collection labeled from Antsirabè but I think this isn't the right finding place.
Many thanks.

Ciao Antonio,

The Folch's Grossular (Tsavorite) comes from Ampanivana pegmatite on Andrembesoa Commune that is located on Betafo Department -> Betafo-Antsirabé region, Antananarivo Province.

On an old issue (Tucson 2003 - What's New?) of the Mineralogical Record magazine, the Ampanivana pegmatite is mentioned as from Antsirabé, maybe for this reason you have Antsirabé on your records.

About Folch collection I would especially emphasize its contents in classics (very fine classics, indeed!).
It is specially interesting for lovers of Spanish, European and Northamerican minerals (mainly USA and Mexico) as Neptunite, Red Cloud Mine Wulfenite, minerals of Mapimí, etc., but very good species all over the world are waiting for you. Take just some notes! (I simply write about pieces I remember just now) Phosgenite from Monteponi, Some superb Azurite, Cerussite and Dioptase especimens, Apatite from Panasqueira, some superb Brazilian pieces, Knappenwand Epidotes... (etc is not enough).

I just moved this topic to the "Collection Photos" area.

When we have the possibility we will publish more photos of specimens from this fantastic collection.

On purpose of the collection of Mr. Folch, like it has been the topic of being able to make a visit to this collection. I suppose that it will be very complex and for this reason it has been a so much parked.

Don't worry Xavier, I remember your wish to visit the collection and I already have your email address. The fact is that after my last message about a visit to the collection:
https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?p=1474#1474 nothing happened yet.

If finally a foreigner group is organized to visit the collection, I will let you know in order to join the group.

Jordi
