Hello to all
First things first: Introduction
My name is Adrian Pripoae and I am a geologist. I graduated in 1985 from Bucharest University with a B.S degree in Geology. Currently, I live in Calgary, Canada and work as a well site geologist in the oil and natural gas industry. That gives me time and money to pursue other interests, like collecting minerals and rocks, photography (occasionally micro photography), and of course traveling. My wife (also a geologist) and I, restarted our collecting passion two years ago when we went from Calgary, Alberta, Canada down to John Grey mineral and rock shop in Holbrook Arizona. It was worth the drive. So we are back in ``business``.
Looking forward in participating in interesting discussions.
Adrian Pripoae

Still ESL (English Second Language) !!! Sorry!

hi Adrian!
A warm warm welcome from another Latin country, Italy! I have been four times in Romania, with my bicycle! Your people are very kind with tourists and mechanicians "Vulcanizare" work very well! I know so much about your people because I am a teacher here in Milano and there are many Romanian and Moldovan people attending it.
Don't worry about your English, it is very good! Now you have the possibility of taking it as a first language because you live in Canada now, don't you? But what's most important is we all understand one another. Here, a mother-tongue level of knowledge is not necessarily required! Jordi may confirm it!
Greetings from Italy by Riccardo.

Absolutely. I created this Forum and my level of knowledge of English language is even worse than yours, as John White reminds often!! ;-) ;-)

Hi Adrian! Out of curiosity, what oil company are you working for? My father is moving up to Calgary to manage an oil company there. :)

Thanks for the warm welcome. Is there any mineral outcrop worth visiting around Bergamo?. I plan to be there around the end of July this year.

Hmm, I'll ask him if they work with them once he gets settled in. :) Would be a funny coincidence.

Hi Adrian!
Yes, there are mines of fluorite around a small village called Zogno, and quartz mines around another village called Selvino!
Moreover, there are several mineral mines in the province Sondrio, bordering with the province Bergamo as well! In Val Codera I found some spessartine and some beryls (aquamarine). In that valley it is impossible to get there by car. There are stairs for a 600 m height level and then there is a path all over. Then you should be very well equipped for a mountain trip.
When you plan to come here in Lombardy, pleas let me know.
Greetings from Italy by Riccardo.

|
|
My name is Dale and I live in the panhandle of Texas. I work as a State licensed geoscientist which in my case is a Hydrologist as opposed to a Geologist. I did have 30 hours of Geology in college 15 hours undergrad and 15 hours graduate level but don’t be misled; I am no expert. For as long as I can remember I have been interested in rocks and minerals. Actually my hobby is hobbies and I have explored many from metal casting to painting, coin collecting and sculpture as well as metal detecting (have a White’s Matrix M-6) and too many other interests to name.
What I like are fist-sized samples that are definitive or representative of the mineral or rock. Samples like you might see in a class for teaching purposes. Nothing very expensive, rare or museum quality, just solid examples. My rock and mineral collection is currently at around 115 samples out of my want list of 198. I prefer to collect them myself but that isn’t always practicable so I do purchase or trade as well. I don’t do lapidary work but I might like to try that in the future.
Hope to learn a lot here.
Dale
