Amen to the above. Words are not adequate to express the loss that we have just experienced. Rest in peace, my friend.

This is terrible news. As a big fan of Brazilian minerals I always made it a point to visit Luiz's room at Denver and Tucson. His knowledge of Brazil's minerals and localities was invaluable, and he was a such a kind and friendly person. He will be greatly missed. Thoughts are with his family.

I agree. I had the opportunity to meet him in person a couple of times at the Ste Marie show. Very sad news.

Sometimes you meet someone who you can easily feel comfortable with. Luiz was a humble fellow. Thanks for your friendship Luiz. Now you are at one with the minerals you knew so much about.

I purchased something from Luis almost every year in Tucson, and always came away from the encounter with a smile on my face. He was a good man, and I will miss him like fire. As Peter says "Vaya con Dios, amigo."

The team of "Le Règne Minéral" has learned with a great sadness the death of Luis.
Our team will remember that Luis always gave him a little time for our reports, with a smile, sharing with passion its mineralogical news from Brazil.
Our sincere condolences to his family.

Hi to everybody!
There are no words to describe my pain as soon as I have read this topic. I knew Luiz well, I saw him at the first MIndat meeting in Lwowek Slaski three years ago and always saw him in Munich. I fully agree with all of you. It's a big big loss for our world of mineralogy!
All my condolences to the family of Luiz and greetings from Italy by Riccardo.

This year I missed in Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines, the presence of Luiz A. Menezes, well known mineralogist and dealer. He always brought rare species from Brazilian pegmatites. This year his brother Carlos was there and told me that Luiz was fighting against cancer. Unfortunately he has lost this battle.
Luiz was a very affable person, with this sweet Brazilian speaking accent. We spend our time talking about pegmatite minerals, both the Brazilian and the Cap de Creus (Catalonia) or les Alberes (France). Luiz explained to me how he got rare specimens from micas, before miners or sellers washed with acid the specimens to be sold by weight. In those samples rare specimens appeared as carbonates, oxides, phosphates... which he helped to be investigated.
Years ago he gave me away a small sample of menezesite, and signed the label. It is a rare niobate. I'll keep it with great fondness.
Luiz, sit tibi terra levis...
