Stunning photos and fine specimens. I especially like the Orpiment pseudomorph after Realgar.

Orangey-brown pyromorphite crystals with mustard-yellow terminations. The color contrast is striking and impressive. Classic color combo and rare to find now.

Xiao, that is certainly an attractive French pyromorphite (pyromorphite05b.jpg) ! I am curious to know what the cause is for the abrupt color change during crystallization? Very nice specimen...

I second that, it is an impressive specimen and well photographed. Thank you for showing.

Great specimens and great photos, both of which reflect a well-developed taste in appreciating what makes a fine specimen. Are you willing to share some more personal information with FMF? I note that you have been collecting for only a few years and that you have purchased most of your specimens over the internet, so it is rather amazing to me that you have developed such an eye for wonderful specimens in relative isolation. What you have done is quite exceptional, I believe, without the benefit of being able to attend major mineral shows.

I'm very glad that many people like the specimens and photos I have posted. To me, collecting minerals and sharing the best aspect of those specimens with the community are both wonderful things.
I'm a computer graphic artist living in Shanghai, China. I like everything in nature from child. Biology and chemistry used to be my favorite. But for some reason, I went to the university in an architectural college. After graduation, I went into the TV/film industry. Now I'm a supervisor and technical director on 3d animation and visual effects.
When I was in mid-school, I did a chemical experiment on some mineral samples I bought from a museum store. Very interesting experience. I remember that one sample had a cubic shape (pyrite), and one sample had a rhombohedral shape (optical calcite). So in 2009 I decided to buy more mineral samples for further research. On Ebay, to my big big surprise, a sunflower-like selenite caught my eyes. That was the first time I realized that a mineral can be so incredibly beautiful. The final bidding price was less than 300 bucks. That was the beginning of my mineral collecting via the internet.
I collect very few gem mineral specimens, not because I don't like them. But I think with the same amount of money, I'm able to get more eye-catching specimens for a regular species. I like collecting thumbnail-miniature specimens not only due to the price, but many unique specimens are small in size.
I think my artistic eye was developed in the design college, and evolved during my whole career. I like photographing, and with my computer knowledge, I can make those photos look more professional by cleaning and replacing the background.
Here I'd like to thank to all mineral dealers that pick those specimens from thousand and hundred of pieces. And I just made choices from their picked ones.
This May, I went to Changsha Mineral Show. A little disappointed, because the prices are too high, compared to those sold on the web. But I still picked some price-friendly thumbnails from a few dealers. :)
There might be some glitches in my English. I hope I've made everything clear.

Hi Xdxucn,
Thank you for telling us a little more about yourself. Like John White, I have been following your thread closely and was surprised at the level of sophistication for a relatively new collector who has not had the benefit of attending mineral shows. I think there is no doubt that your TV/film work has helped you to develop an artistic eye for mineral specimens. Congratulations on your collection and I look forward to you sharing more pieces with us soon.
Michael

Hello Xiao!
I'm fascinated from your minerals and from your photographs. I think, you have a good feeling for right point of view to present your specimens. Stay tuned!
Is the last photo of the Malachite specimen a brain of a mineral collector? ;)
