Some nice Namibian specimens, does anyone know what the yellow coating on the quartz crystals in the first specimen is?

The yellow flakes are Muscovite, and this specimen cannot have come from the Tsumeb Mine - certainly Erongo region, probably from one of the pegmatites on the (vast) territory of Davib Ost (Davib East) Farm 61 on the south side of the Erongo massif. See:
https://www.mindat.org/loc-2421.html
https://www.mindat.org/gallery.php?loc=2421&min=2815
The Brandberg area isn't known for Dioptase either… depending on what the matrix is, this could be either Tsumeb material or from a number of places on the Kaokoveld Plateau:
https://www.mindat.org/loc-30243.html
By the way, could you please try to ensure that we can admire your fine specimens the right side up? :)
Cheers, Gerhard

Please!
I already turned your first specimens but is a lot of work and honestly, I won't do it again if you continue downloading your photos by the wrong side. Thank you.

Okay thanks! I will try to post the images in the correct orientation next time. As for the localities, that's how they were passed onto me, but I'm no expert so any information is appreciated! I'm not sure how I can change the orientation of the pictures now? Can I not since there have been replies after the post?

I agree with Gerhard regarding the locality information. It seems to me that the labels are mixed up, since the (schorl) tourmaline is most likely from Brandberg and the dioptase looks to be from Tsumeb. I fixed the orientation of your specimens.

The Dioptase was received from an online vendor. When I get home today I will quote the certificate/label that came with it if it may help. The Tourmaline was acquired at a show with little information other than that it was from Tsumeb. I appreciate the help and if some admin could fix these mistakes that would be great!

Here are a few more, local specimen from the green mountains. Hopefully they are oriented correctly this time if they aren't I have no clue what's going wrong. I collected the diopside specimen myself and I'm quite sure of the id but any other opinions are appreciated! It's a rather nice specimen considering the locality which was exposed in a vein under a small waterfall. Actinolite matrix I believe?

So I tried taking the pictures differently this time. Will it work? I guess we'll find out. Any other locale possibilities? It's a bit more orange than other similar crystals I've seen from the mysterious locality.

I just got myself some early christmas presents, thanks to Tom Loomis of Dakota Matrix for the crazy good deals on these awesome specimens! I'm really proud of these two they are surely some of my favorites now. I also have a computer now so hopefully the images will be right side up and someone will move this topic to its proper place. Both are ex. Don Phillips specimens.

close up of the largest cluster, a few notable chips but very very wonderful nonetheless. These pictures do not do the color of these crystals justice, they are very yellow and lustrous for Tsumeb. |
