I was just scrolling through the list of recent posting and found several topics for which I was not notified of an update. Is anyone else having this problem? Is it possible that deleting an update notice (which I have done occasionally, then used the "recent postings" feature to read them all) somehow takes me off the list for further update notices? _________________ "Wisdom begins in wonder" - Socrates |

I am not getting notifications either, like I used to. But I check back almost daily, so no worries in that regard. |

Hi,
Same problem with me too, but I tend to do the same thing as Gail.

OK. Thanks to letting me know, I don't suffer this problem, that's why I don't noticed it, but as I'm forum's coordinator maybe I get it and the rest of members not.
We will work on it together with our technologic staff (Xavi & Joan) and we will let you know the result of our search.

Correct Pete, but you are Forum moderator as John, so probably you have the same benefits as me, but not the rest of members.
Gail is a different case as she is moderator too but not a Forum's moderator but a topic's moderator.
We will try to discover what happens, don't worry about it...

Well for what it is worth, I am getting notifications now! Don't you just love the internet? _________________ Minerals you say? Why yes, I'll take a dozen or so... |

Hi Jordi,
Would it have something to do with the user's profile ? Apparently you can be notified when someone answers to a thread in which you have posted too.
But when a new thread is created, I don't always receive notification (excepted for this one). Sounds like your customisation of the notification is too restrictive ? Might worth replacing those customised files by the regular ones for a few days and see what happens ?

Hi all,
During last days we have had some problems with our server, which was operating under low available hard disk space conditions. This could be the cause of the missing notifications. We solved these problems yesterday so all must be working well again.
Remember, by default, every user in the forum receive an e-mail notification each time a new thread is started. Inside the e-mail message received, there are instructions about what to do if you don't want to receive notifications any more.
Greetings. _________________ Joan Fabre

Chris,
Some time ago we decide by request of several Forum members to notify fewer messages, so you will no longer receive multiple e-mails relating to the same topic. You'll be advised about new postings, but only by just one e-mail message until you read it: https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?p=2136
The system seems to work well (with some exception as the last trouble with our server) and people is happy with it, so I'm sorry don't notify each message, but some people complained when we did it due the high number of messages generated for some threads.

Here's an example...I didn't get a notification that anyone had responded to my question. No notification on the latest "help identifying collection" posting (I think I got notified of the last one). "2 Spanish localities..." - I got a notification.
The system doesn't seem to be working quite right for me. Am I doing something wrong? For the time being I check the "recent postings" box whenever I open a notification to see whether I missed anything, and there's usually at least 1 that never reached me.
Thanks

Tracy,
In some circumstancies you won't get one message per post. If you get a notification related to a thread, you won't gent any more notifications related to the same thread since you read it. When the forum detects that you're reading the thread, it enables again the notifications related to that thread.
We did it on that way, to avoid you to receive in your mail inbox multiple messages by every post in every thread.
Maybe you use to read the forum messages without being logged in? If you're not logged in the forum, it cannot detect you reading a thread, so even if you read it (anonymously) you won't gent any more notifications on that thread... may this be your problem? _________________ Joan Fabre

Hi Joan -
I always open threads from the same 2 computers. Both are permanently logged in to FMF. I rarely delete things without opening them, even if only to scan.
I forgot to mention earlier - I didn't get a notification for "image attachment system improved" which was a brand new topic.
There doesn't seem to be any pattern I can find. The problem, whatever it is, seems to be random. But maybe with the things you just fixed it will correct itself - meanwhile I'll just keep scrolling up to check for activity in the "latest topics" box.
Thanks

Hi Tracy,
Do you have anti-spam software on your 2 computers ? Are the missing notifications occur on both computers or always on the same ?

Hi Chris -
Anti-spam on both computers. And the problem happens on both. Note that all my messages come in through my Yahoo email account, I'm logged into the account from both computers as well. I'll keep monitoring, thanks.

Hi Tracy,
Don't forget there is also an anti-spam filter on Yahoo's servers too (SpamGuard). You can try to desactivate it for a while and see what happens. Your problem could be here and not on your computers' side.

Or by accident you used the link located at the top of every page:
Don't send me alerts when new messages posted located at the top of every page
or, maybe, this other link, which is at the bottom of every mail announcing new messages:
To un-subscribe:
If you no longer wish to be advised when a new message is posted on the forum please click the following link:
https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/unwatch_forum.php
If not, your anti-spam system is killing our mails with the announces of new posts, please check your anti-spam tray, or, last possibility, you have two different user's names. |

I'm subscribed to a lot of topics of FMF. But since several weeks last month I have not received any notification. Given that August is a holidays period for many people I thought all the members were at the beach wearing a swimsuit. But what a surprise when I entered to FMF a few days ago and saw a great deal of new posts.
The topics I was subscribed to, however, kept showing the legend Stop watching this topic at the page foot as usual, but I got no notifications at all.
The workaround for other people with the same issue (if any): With just a couple of clicks unsubscribe and then subscribe again to each topic. The big problem is to recall what topics you were subscribed to. I fear I will never catch up. Any solution, please? |
