Me too, Pierre. One "extra zero" (at least) has been added to what many of us would consider to be a realistic price. I'm talking especially about those specimens that are not particularly choice or difficult to find. I'll opt for the new car instead!

Maybe the dealer thinks that 12k will somehow seem less than 12,000. It also reduces the need for making change. Just carry a pile of thousand-dollar bills.

It's similar to another usual trick. Prices like $99.99 can be found everywhere but not in the mineral market (yet).

I want to caution people on commenting about the prices. This year one dealer stopped allowing photographing in their room because of last year's carping. If you want to get mineral reporting like i am doing, I just wouldn't comment on pricing on a thread adjacent to my postings.
In defense of the dealers, I photograph the things that interest me which are very good pieces. Very good pieces go for very good prices. The price difference between a wulfenite specimen with the best color, luster, and transparency, largest xtals, isolated xtals, good composition and matrix, and no damage or “issues”, is one or more orders of magnitude more than one that lacks those characteristics. If you are the dealer with the one best brookite to have come out in many years, there will be people bidding large amounts of money for it. The true measure of whether prices are reasonable is whether they sell, and I assure you much selling is occurring. Of course I certainly do see some prices that are out of whack - but I just simply don't buy those. And I don't spend any time telling the dealer I think their price is crazy. Why create acrimony?

Today I went to the Westward Look. Even though the show doesn't officially open until tomorrow, the great majority of dealer rooms were open.
Marcus Budil had a number of crazy good specimens on display. For some reason I only took one picture, that of a Pingtouling mimetite that was just fantastic. He had two others. I hope to take more pictures in the room in the future and maybe get my ruler into the cases for scale.
Next, I went to Evan Jones' room (Unique Minerals) where he had several excellent Milpillas specimens as well as an unusual acanthite and a huge manganite with top luster.
Next to Wendel's room where they invited me to open all the cases and put my ruler in for scale.
Finally, I went to Scott Werschky's room (Miners Lunchbox).
