Tobi, the octahedral overgrowths on galena from the Tri-State District are very common. The Kenora Mine in particular seemed to produce more of this type than simple cubes.

To me, it looked rather strange among all the "ordinary" simple galena crystals from all over the world that are on display there ;-)

Out of all the galenas in the world, I have always loved the “wackiness” of the old Tri-state galenas. I was fortunate a few years ago to find a dealer who was selling some…though they were all labeled as coming from Viburnum Trend (none of these were from the Kenora Mine), which is a common error I have noticed.
Speaking of confusing Tri-State and Viburnum Trend minerals, I also noticed on this thread that on the first page there is a specimen labeled “Marcasite on Galena - Picher Field_Tri-State District_Ottawa Co_Oklahoma_USA.jpg” in Javier Ruiz Martin’s collection. Both the identification of the mineral and locality are incorrect however.
The mineral is pyrite and it is distinctively from the West Fork Mine, Centerville, Viburnum Trend District, Reynolds County, Missouri, USA. The pyrite specimens from here were never common and I have one in my collection. The specimens from my understanding were mined in the early 1990s.
