Fiebre azul, why not hand over this really ugly BLUE cystal to one of these modern, state-of-the-art labs, where they will just spill over some yellow stuff to turn its awful light blue colour into a beautiful GREEN. And then, of course, trim the wohle thing to a "Killer"- Thumbnail:-((((
Caso resuelto;)))

By the way, I am beginning to understand, why I see this amont of screaming fakes, even at big shows.and with important dealers. You must have cornered the marked for the authentic and nice specimens;)))))

Thank you so much for your interesting postings and to come to an end... felizes fiestas:)

Thanks for your nice comments minsur.

Actually La Marina could be inspirational for these labs.
I was told fluorapatite and euclase could happily coexist in La Marina (never seen this association in person...)
All they have to do is add some green et voilà... maybe I should patent this?!

Felices fiestas a todos!

Well, I really hope that my ability to spot fakes has better developed than my Spanish spelling;)))

I have not seen one of these combo specimens in person yet.
There is a quite nice specimen pictured on commercial sites. As links to commercial sites are not well received here, (even without getting any commission;-) ) I do not post the exact link.

Now, let's wait for the first three-colour-fakes:-(
Or, with some Parisite added, even 4 colours:-(((((
The good news are, La Marina specimens with its quite hard feldspar covered matrix are certainly more difficult to handle and deal with than the usual relatively soft calcite-shale stuff.

Another blue note to start the year.

These sub-parallel growth of two individual crystals are also from La Marina.

Happy new year to all the members of this glorious forum!

A really lovely piece, one more in this exceptional collection.
I'm not an expert, maybe I'm wrong but to my understanding I would say is not a twin but a sub-parallel growth of two individual crystals.

Thanks Josele for your nice comments.
To be honest I was a bit reluctant when I wrote this - I am not an expert in twinned crystals by any means.
If the consensus is that it is indeed a sub-parallel growth, could a Site Admin update my comments in the body of the message? Thanks!

PostPosted: Jan 04, 2016 17:23    Post subject: Re: Collection of Fiebre Verde - Coscuez (#577)

Back to green territory... with lot of black crystals!
Actually the color of the calcite is closer to dark gray.
In close to 20 years, I have seen less than a handful of specimens with dark gray/black calcite.
There are some tiny pyrite crystals on the other side of the specimen.

Wonderful pictures of those two recent emerald specimens! Excellent contrast between the emerald crystals and the black/gray calcite crystals.

Thanks for your comments Jamison.
Green over black definitely creates an appealing contrast, mainly seen in the Western belt localities.
Dark gray/black calcite is uncommon in the Colombian emerald districts. When combined with emeralds, it becomes a rarity.

Another specimen featuring a green-over-black contrast.
The beryl crystal is directly perched - not glued - on the black shale host rock. A Muzo classic setting.
The faces of the prism have complex dissolution patterns on the surfaces.
