Took my first trip to a quartz mine here in Arkansas. Had never been to a mine and didn't know what to expect. Now I am hooked. My son and I had a fantastic time! We were there approximately three hours and boy did we find some gems! I have been doing more research than when I was in college and I am loving the whole experience. Will be posting some of my gems as I learn more about them. A few of them seem to be quite unique but as I said I am learning. Let me know. I am also not sure how many pieces are normal to find on a first trip. I found approximately 30+ pieces some with water clear clarity, rainbows, ditrapezohedrons, windows, clusters and other features. If you reply, please let me know what is your favorite characteristic of a quartz crystal?

Water Clear Ditrapezohedron Parallel Window with Steep Face. When you hold this one at a certain angle, it looks just like a man's face. So unique!

Which mine did you visit, and how were you mining the crystals?

Ron Coleman Mine and I used my hands. I started around and under a large boulder. I actually only used a trowel a couple of times to get deeper. I guess I hit a pocket right away. Is that normal? LOL
