Nice job on the photos.. Really captured the blue color in one of the photos which is really hard to do without washing out the white matrix. Very nice!

Thanks to both for the comments! About the nice job... not nice at all. Hard, long, boring and exhausting. You can't imagine! But note that the best picture is not exactly mine.

An exceptional specimen, Carles. I'm really impressed by its beauty and aesthetics - and I'm actually not an azurite fan. But this one with that well-defined crystal sitting on white rock is an eyecatcher of the finest quality. And concerning your photo job: Oh yes, I CAN imagine the struggle. You know, we often talked about thoses horrible photo sessions when a specimen simply doesn't want to be captured. And this azurite, no matter how beautiful it is, looks like a real a**hole when it comes to photographing ;-)

But you managed it quite well, congratulations!

PostPosted: Mar 28, 2016 08:05    Post subject: Collection of Carles Millan: Bournonite and scheelite from Yaogangxian

Bournonite, scheelite

A typical stepped prismatic bournonite crystal showing metallic luster with a couple of translucent bipyramidal scheelite crystals perched on the right side. Overall size: 37mm x 21mm. Bournonite crystal: 33.0mm tall, 18.5mm wide. Major scheelite crystal: 7mm tall. Extracted about year 2007. Ex Jan Buma collection.

Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang, Chenzhou Prefecture, Hunan Province, China.

This specimen has a little story, maybe interesting enough to be told. All happened in a recent small local fair in Barcelona, informally known as Fira de Sants, where Jordi Fabre usually keeps a booth. After my reaching the half million views in a collection thread at FMF, he wanted to give me a reward for being the first to get there, so he offered me a nice transparent and colorless calcite from the Chinese Leiping mine. Almost at the same time I spotted another Chinese piece nearby, presumably much more expensive than the calcite, a bournonite with scheelite that I dearly preferred. So Jordi and I came soon to an agreement and I finally added it to my collection instead.

I must express my gratitude and appreciation to him, not only for the reward that I think I don't deserve, but mainly for his great effort spent in creating and maintaining this forum in the fist place.

What a great gift, congratulations! My dear Jordi, if I should ever reach the 500,000 views: Galena from Neudorf/Harz or a fine Sweet Home rhodo ;-)))))))))))))))))

Today is my first day on this forum and I began browsing this thread.

A great thank to you Carles for sharing these marvelous minerals.
They are all aesthetic, with no damage, and each one is consistent in size with the others.

A great lesson of collecting

PostPosted: May 17, 2016 13:20    Post subject: Collection of Carles Millan: Smithsonite from Tsumeb

Smithsonite

Cluster of crystals made up of dozens of sharp, pearly, transparent to translucent, rose pink, slightly rounded elongated rhombohedrons of smithsonite, with vitreous luster and no matrix. Looks like a floater with what might be a thin rehealed attachment area of galena on the back side. The color may be produced by traces of cobalt cations trapped in the lattice. Undamaged. Overall size: 93mm x 68mm x 37mm. Main crystal size: about 10mm. Weight: 175g.

Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia.

Illustrated in the magazine MdC - Mineralogistes de Catalunya, 2016/1, page 88.

PostPosted: Aug 03, 2016 07:11    Post subject: Collection of Carles Millan: Sphalerite from Trepca

Sphalerite, dolomite, calcite

Group of black highly lustrous sphalerite crystals showing very sharp edges and well defined mirror-like faces, which is not typical of the species, partially covered with smaller colorless crystals of dolomite and calcite that produce a deep and nice contrast. The specimen has been kept by a local miner in pristine condition, free of any damage, since its extraction some time between years 1994-2002. Contains several spinel-law twins on the octahedral {111} face as can easily be appreciated in the photos. Overall size: 124 mm x 87 mm x 39 mm. Major crystal size: 29 mm on edge. Weight: 471 g. Unfortunately this is a not photography friendly specimen.

Stan Terg Mine, Trepča Complex, Trepča Valley, Kosovska Mitrovica, Kosovska Mitrovica District, Kosovo.
