Since I don't know where else to put this, and Jordi did ask me to do a photo op on it...and Marie is really chomping at the bit..here goes.

No Spann gathering would be complete without me cooking up a storm! So some of the food I made for the meeting was Crawfish Creole over white rice, Chicken Canneloni, Corn bread, portabella mushrooms in a sherry and soy sauce, lemony artichoke hearts, home made brownies and verious cheeses and snacks.

I have to run some errands, will be back later to add some more photos. I encourage all people to host get togethers in your home and share your minerals with those whose enthusiasm is like yours. And if you can bring young people in, all the better!
Being ambassadors for the hobby is essential to keeping the hobby alive!

PostPosted: Jun 08, 2009 20:12    Post subject: Re: MAD meeting at the Spann's home, June 6th 2009.

Well, am settled in for the evening and will finish off my MAD meeting report.

Gloria Staebler, of Extra Lapis, was our guest speaker. We so enjoyed her and the stories she told of funny things that happen when you are trying to put together issues. She also spoke of the Steve Smale book and a little bit about the American mineral treasures book.
Dave Bunk had an oppurtunity to set up some flats of minerals for sale in our dining room also.
Paul Bernhard, who is doing the exhibit design for the new Dallas Museum of Nature and Science, flew in to enjoy the evening and to see our minerals. Aisha and Arif from Rocksaholics were here to attend and enjoy good company.
James McGuire, a potential candidate for MAD, had a nice evening meeting new folks and seeing our minerals. Michelle, a friend of Dr. Carters, came to see minerals in a home setting and really seemed interested and asked lots of questions.
All in all there were about 40 people in and out over the course of the evening.

What I love to see are our guests all relaxing, having a good laugh, talking minerals and teasing each other. Before the meeting officially started I asked who was a guest, they introduced themselves and we welcomed them. I even teased our sister group, HAMS, by giving them a hard time about us being...well....better! And the HAMS folks insisted their case in Tucson was better. All in fun and good spirits!
