Thanks for the kind words Jean and Jordi. One correction though...EVERYTHING I exhibited was from Mexico, including all the historic pieces
Jean Sendero wrote: | Today at the Westward Look was the “Collector of the Day” featuring Dr Peter Megaw and his collection of super ultra-fine Mexican minerals. Peter was setting up early with his daughter Lauren who flew in from Stanford the night before to help Peter.
Two cases, eight shelves, filled with some of Peter's favourites arranged in a different manner that I normally see from Peter's exhibits. Peter usually will display by localities, this time, the groupings were more thematic with shelfs with “Type or rare”, Thumbnails (on acrylic…..), blue minerals, pseudomorphs, old and historic specimens (not all from Mexico), Simply Beautiful specimens, Silver Minerals and quartz.
Regardless what shelf the specimen was sitting on, everything that Peter put out there were simply great. |

Sorry Peter,
I thought one of the wulfenite, if I recall, had a european locality (i.e. the reason for my comment). I must have read it wrongly.
Cheers

Day one of my trip! These are from the Pueblo Gem and Mineral Show. First time I’ve been to PGMS and I think I saw a good amount of it. Enjoy the pictures. Mobile uploads take a long time. You can see more of my coverage in my facebook group “The Annual Tucson Gem And Mineral Showcase Report” and “Calcite Collectors”. Feel free to contribute to the group as well! I’m putting up some HD video there as well.
Pics from Marcus Budil fine Minerals and Cristalli.
The top two green calcites (one with fluorite) are from Pakistan and I think they deserve mention. Perhaps not a novelty (I think they’ve been around), but something I feel is very unique.

|
|
Tucson 02/07/2018
Today is the set up day of the Main Show (or Convention Center Show), so yesterday the atmosphere all arround was a kind of "waiting time" as you can see in this photo of these six fellows. We could call they "The Fabulous Six" considering who they are. From left to right:
Elise Skalwold, John S. White, Moni and Herb Obodda, Paul W. Pohwat (Smithsonian) and John Veevaert (Trinity Mineral)
Eh, not too bad, right? ;-)

A last word is: I know I'm maybe not totally fair or neutral because I'm very good friend of the Spanns, but this particular showcase made my mind blow up, not only by the quality of their "showy" specimens but also for the variety or the rarity of the rest. I went impressed. |

@Gail: Your Brazilian Crystal Treasures showcase belongs to the most beautiful mineral displays I've ever seen! ... And I've seen a lot of beautiful mineral displays ;-)

Gail and Jim
Thank you both for sharing such wonderful specimens and taking the time to upload all the photos - really appreciated from someone who couldn't make the show.
Your contributions continue to amaze.
And that other case of yours with the Manganites - yes !!
Cheers

|
|
Tucson 02/10/2018
Without time for more (tomorrow I already fly back to Spain) and hoping to publish many more photos the next few days, I say goodbye to Tucson with images of the two souls that coexist in this monstrous Fair. The gigantic, which well symbolizes the rubellite "Tarugo" and which catches the media excitement, and the smallest, a Euclase on Quartz with violet inclusions in "hourglass" style, despite being in the powerful showcase "Brazilian Crystal Treasures" may have been unnoticed.
That's Tucson! ;-)

Tobi, that is a wonderful compliment, and thank you so very much! It was a joy to see you and am always happy when you come to Tucson. Jim and I loved putting that case in.
