Hi everybody.

There are many Ferro-hornblende outcrops in Almeria province, at the southeastern Spain.
This is one of them close to the beach known as watchtower del Rayo (Punta del Rayo) in Carboneras.

Now that a few weeks of staying at home are coming up, it’s good to go out to the virtual field collecting, at the beach in this case.

Due to the state of alert and the resulting quarantine that the Spanish government decreed last Saturday, we have more free time and I´ve rescued these photographs taken in 2014.

Algarrobico Beach lies on Spain´s south-eastern coast, close to the city of Carboneras (Almeria province) in Andalusia. The beach was one of few remaining unspoiled Mediterranean littoral landscapes in Spain.


Watchtower del Rayo:

Like many of the coastal defenses was built during the time of the Nasrid dynasty of Granada in the 15th century.

Located on the beach of Galera, it is a watchtower with a cylindrical plan and was part of the defensive line of the coast. The turrets warned of the sighting of enemy ships, lighting a bonfire and thus the troops were put on alert.

It was rebuilt in the 16th century. It is now fully restored and has been declared a Monument of Cultural Interest.

Finally we got some specimens.

It is not easy due to the hardness of the rock and the fragility of the crystals.
