PostPosted: Aug 04, 2021 08:27    Post subject: Tsumeb Zincolivenite association - light blue acicular mineral = ?

Hello, I recently came across a Tsumeb TN labeled "Zincolivenite - Adamite" . The label is recent however the specimen was sourced around 1987. Upon examination under glass there is an association with a light blue acicular mineral accompanied by minute black granular aggregates. Rosasite immediately came to mind but it does not appear to be listed as an association for Zincolivenite at Tsumeb. Any thoughts?
Thank you!

with the pale blue color and extremely elongate crystals I would suspect aurichalcite over rosasite...but there are several acicular blue alternatives for Tsumeb...stranskyite?

Hi,

The transparent mineral looks like calcite to me.

Cheers,
Stefan

Thank you! From my (layman's simplistic) perspective the mineral formula for Aurichalcite (Zn,Cu)5(CO3)2(OH)6 would suggest that its paragenesis might lead to association with Zincolivenite CuZn(AsO4)(OH), although neither Tsumeb . com nor Mindat list the association as "common." Really appreciate your feedback!
