What I did not specify above is that the organization was taken over by the authorities of the city of SMM who understood the touristic contribution of the event. It's not DIY anymore.
The show is much better organized than before.
In Colmar, the show would be tasteless and would lose its historic soul. |

Part of the truth and a forgotten story is, that the local authorities obstructed and harassed the former decade-long private show promoter in just about any possible way over years, and from year to year worse!
Just because of this more and more unfriendly environment and not because he did not like Sainte Marie anymore, he tried to "escape" to Colmar, by the way a much nicer place than Sante Marie, at least in my eyes.
The local politicians jumped in intelligently, when it was about 50-50 whether the show would stay or move. Realizing at last minute, that they could possibly make a substantial profit for whom so ever (for themselves ;-) ) by taking over private decade-long build up and marketing efforts for free, they managed to keep the show in their village. Expropriation by the state would be the suitable expression for that.
Exactly from this point onwards, absolutely nothing was a problem anymore - parking lots, access of security or rescue forces, catering... - you name it.
The local politicians travelling every year to Tucson and Munich of course;-) |

"All is well that ends well...." Very strange how 'they finally saw the light' and not surprising that it was for the wrong reasons; but, "All is well that ends well...."

I can only give a visitor opinion.
I do not regret the change, especially when it comes to welcoming visitors.
In the past, in the '60s, it was simpler. I parked my car in front of the Theater stairs.
I had even made an exchange by choosing French barites, car trunk open!
Roger Titeux was already there, with his boater hat and Italian celestines.
But the specimens were less beautiful than today. |

Prepping-Labs were unknown yet in the sixties...;.-) , but this is another story... |

For the show promoter who was forced out of his lifelong successful business and basically expropriated by the state within just a few weeks, as well as for his employees losing their jobs, it ended not so well:-(( |
