For a long time we have wanted to add to FMF the tool: "pm" (personal message). With it every member logged can contact other members using the "pm" button. This would be the way to send messages directly to other members without using the general Forum for it. Is a kind of "bypass" and it doesn't display the email address to the recipient, so people using it keep confidential.

We didn't do this until now because we were afraid that this tool could be used for spammers to disturb the FMF members, sending them unwanted messages. Considering the utility of this tool and that, in fact, only logged-on members of FMF can use it, finally we have decided go ahead and add it. So, now in each message you have a new button "pm" (below the button "profile") that every logged-on member can use to contact in privacy the member who published the message.

The only way to avoid spammers using it for their evil desires is to warn me. If someone get a publicity message via "pm", please let me know (via "pm") the text of the message and more importantly the user name of the spammer. I will delete immediately the FMF spammers forever, so they will never more disturb anyone. I assume that it won't happen but, if it does, we will act fast with the members help and we will kill the attempt in order to keep FMF as peaceful as it is currently, but with the plus of the addition of this very useful "pm" tool.

I forgot to comment that if some individual of FMF doesn't like to receive "pm" this is an available option. So no problem, just let me know via "pm" and I will execute it.

We made an improvement to avoid spammers to use the 'pm' tool (private messages) in their benefit. The new tool avoid the use of the mp for new members during 24 hours. After this period they will get the permission to use the 'pm'. Of course everything will be the same concerning the use of 'pm' for all members having more than 24 hours of antiquity in FMF.

Hopefully this new tool will help to limit spammers' activity. The battle continues!

Hello Jordi,

I have been thinking of a PM improvement. I tried to contact someone from the "Viewing profile" page. But there is no PM button / link on it. Would it be difficult (usefull ?) to add one to this page ?

You are right Jordi, This is why I added a "?" after usefull... And yes I do agree with you, a customized version of a tool is far more complex and expansive to maintain. The wisest decision would be to forget my asking.
