Well balanced, good color, and super sharp cubes make this one a winner.

Old specimens, better photos:
Mineral: | Quartz |
Locality: | Toufassmame (Izizauen), Alnif Commune, Tinghir Province, Drâa-Tafilalet Region, Morocco
|
Dimensions: | Specimen size 15 cm |
Description: |
I got this piece from Anton Watzl some years ago and I always used his photo. But the colour was a little too saturated and I wanted to make my own photo of this wonderful red quartz. And I think the result is quite good. |

Mineral: | Hemimorphite |
Locality: | Sa Duchesa Mine, Oridda Valley, Domusnovas, Sud Sardegna Province, Sardinia/Sardegna, Italy
|
Dimensions: | Specimen size 13 cm |
Description: |
I purchased this specimen two years ago but my old photo never did the beauty of this piece justice. I think this new photo shows better how nice this classic hemimorphite is. |

Old specimens, better photos - fluorite edition:
Mineral: | Fluorite |
Locality: | Guxian, Tongbai, Nanyang Prefecture, Henan Province, China
|
Dimensions: | Specimen size 19 cm |
Description: |
I got this unique fluorite from Jordi two years ago. Of course our master's photos were always good but in this case, the official photo included a plastic stand and didn't show the best perspective. And because this large alien fluorite is among my favourite specimens, I just wanted to make my own picture of it. |

A piece I got from Spirifer Minerals in 2021. Their photo showed a plastic stand and wasn't as good as their photos usually are. I think this one is better (which I didn't expect according to my low-level photo skills). |

Locality: | Clara Mine, Rankach Valley, Oberwolfach, Wolfach, Black Forest, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Dimensions: | Specimen size 16 cm |
Description: |
Another piece I got in 2021 from a dear friend. As a fan of German minerals, fluorite and classics I love this Clara fluorite for several reasons. It is such a beauty, good size, light blue colour, purple zonings and so many details. It was just that my older photo didn't do justice to this beautiful specimen, this one is for sure better. |

Mineral: | Fluorite, Sphalerite |
Locality: | Naica Mine, Naica, Municipio Saucillo, Chihuahua, Mexico
|
Dimensions: | Specimen height 8 cm |
Description: |
And finally - though I had two really good photos from Saphira Minerals and from another dealer - I just wanted to try an own photo of this Naica fluorite. This piece was added 2023 and is one of my favourite pieces, we had some discussion here on the crystal form and the beauty of this. Never expected to capture it that good, the photo may not have the depth of the professional ones but it matches the several colour tones perfectly. |

Another piece for the series "old specimens, better photos":
I got this large pegmatite specimen from Namibia in 2022 and I never had a photo that does it justice. This may not be the most professional photos but I hope they demonstrate the size, the three-dimensional form and the beauty of this piece. There are at least 5 different minerals on this specimen and as a fan of quartz, Namibian minerals and pegmatite stuff there are several reasons for me to love this rather massive specimen.
Mineral: | Quartz, Feldspar, Schorl, Muscovite, Fluorite |
Locality: | Davib East Farm 61 (Davib Ost Farm), Karibib District, Erongo Region, Namibia
|
Dimensions: | Specimen size 26 cm, largest quartz crystals 11 cm |

A detail photo that proves there's even some green fluorite on the specimen ;-) |

You are becoming an expert on mineral photography through the years, Tobi. You're still young, so you might one day reach the level of Jeff Scovil. I'm full of envy.

Thank you very much, dear Carles!
I know my photo quality increased over the years but I will never be even close to someone like Jeff. Even if you would give me the best equipment in the world, I wouldn't have the patience to learn much about photography or to wait for the perfect photo ;-)
But I'm glad whenever I can present a photo here that does the minerals justice and that you fellow collectors enjoy!
Thanks again and best regards
Tobi

Superb specimen and good size too! I had never heard of this location, so I looked it up on Mindat. Some of the pieces shown had interesting zoning along the prism. Most of the pieces pictured were not nearly as nice as your recent acquisition. Congratulations.

I guess this locality is not that famous outside Germany (and maybe not even here ;-)) It's a huge quarry in southern Hesse, ~70 km away from my home. Since I'm from Hesse and since I love quartz, I was searching for a good one from Usingen - and now I finally found one :-)
I'm glad you like it, have a nice day!

Don't know if museum-quality but for sure one of the better ones from that locality, very lustrous and with an appealing shape. And a special specimen for me because I collect both quartz and German minerals and this piece from Hesse adds a bit of home to my collection :-)
Best regards

Old specimen - finally an own photo:
I got this wonderful specimen from Madan/Bulgaria a while ago. I never had my own photo, only the one from the previous owner. Now I finally found some time and took pictures, I think this one does the specimen justice (it was not that easy to get a good photo of the shiny crystals). For some people this might be an "ugly grey rock" but I just love this impressive piece with its three different sulfide minerals :-)
Mineral: | Galena, Pyrite, Sphalerite, Quartz |
Locality: | Madan mining area, Rhodope Mountains, Smolyan Oblast, Bulgaria
|
Dimensions: | Specimen size 19 x 12 cm, largest galena crystals 2 cm |
