16 of 63 - Rain Flower at the 2024 Nanjing Show
In Nanjing, there is a local myth that speaks of a time when there were enough temples in Nanjing to support over 10,000 monks. In 507 A.D., one monk, by the name of Yun Guang meaning Light from the Cloud, began preaching the words of Buddha and the immortals were so moved by his eloquence and the beauty he described, that they decided to rain flowers down upon him. These flowers then turned into agates and it's those very agates that are still being sold in bowls of water all around the city.
So the people from Nanjing have a very long history of having agates as part of their culture. So come with us now as we explore the beautifully rendered booth of a Chinese dealer who specializes in Rain Flower Agates right here at the 2024 Nanjing Show.

17 of 63 - Breakfast Buffet at the 2024 Nanjing Show
Breakfast. The most important meal of the day. I usually just have a simple breakfast of fruit and some bread but for you, oh faithful viewer, I braved the morning breakfast buffet here at the Grand Metropark Hotel just to be able to report on it…plus I forgot to film the dinner buffet so this is a bit of a make good. As it turned out, it was exceptional!!!! My personal favorite? The soft tofu bowl with toppings. Check it out!!

Chinese Dealer Chaos Art is set up at the 2024 Nanjing Show and exemplifies some of the trends that we're noticing around the name. Namely the exhibition of mineral specimens for sale using a mix of Chinese style and American/European style within the booth. With a strong emphasis on Chinese minerals - especially a great selection of Chinese Fluorites - Chaos Art seems to the straddling the line between these two different styles of mineral collecting.

19 of 63 - Malachites and More at the 2024 Nanjing Show
In this clip we visit one of the Chinese dealers who is exhibiting on the main floor of the 2024 Nanjing Show to take a look at a bunch of their Malacites from Congo plus a bunch of their other specimens. This is a REALLY interesting look at how Chinese dealers are starting to combine what we consider, "Traditional Chinese specimens" with more, "American and European style specimens." It's evident that the Chinese dealers are quickly learning how to market to a broader audience and it'll be interesting to see if we end up adopting some of the more Chinese style of specimens and displays - and this clip has some evidence to possibly suggest why we should!!!

You may have seen Chen online on Instagram as @Wulfenitechina but here in Nanjing, we finally got a chance to catch up with him and check out some of his Chinese Wulfenites that he was mining from 2009-2014. Great color, nice sizes and good crystals!!! As we wrap up, my eye is caught by some green goodness and we take a look at an ex-Marty Zinn Emerald that's now here in China.

25 of 63 - Volcanic Dacite Pots at the 2024 Nanjing Show
This is one of the coolest things we saw at the 2024 Nanjing Show. An enterprising Chinese company discovered an area in China where they were able to collect volcanic dacite that had erupted. Doing some scientific tests, they came to the conclusion that the dacite had the ability to interact with slightly acidic water and alter it to a more alkaline water. Intrigued, they set about carving some of these dacite pieces into little pots and even went so far as to hire a local Chinese artisan to create some pots of truly beautiful shape.
BlueCap Productions stops at their booth to take a closer look at some of these dacite pots and taste some samples to see if it really does make a difference.

Collector's Edge; out of Golden, Colorado; is one of the Big Boys when it comes to doing business in China. They've been at it for a long time and they understand the market.
While Bryan Lees, owner of CE, was at the Nanjing Show last year, they did not set up a booth. However, for the 2024 show, they did set up a booth and it's a one of the first large booths you see once you enter the Exhibit Hall.

As one would imagine, quartz carvings are prevalent throughout China and the 2024 Nanjing Show is no exception.
In this clip, we wander into one of the big booths on the floor of the Expo Center for a company that seems to be selling beads. HOWEVER, all around the inner circumference of their booth, they've installed numerous modern display cases to exhibit a stellar collection of carvings made out of large quartz crystals.
From animals to landscapes to deities and more, this is a truly note-worthy collection of quartz carvings that worth the time to appreciate.

28 of 63 - Lunch near the Expo Center at the 2024 Nanjing Show
With the...not quite ready for prime time food options at the Expo Center, we decided to head out to a local shopping mall and try our luck at the food options there.
JACKPOT!!!!! We were able to find an excellent restaurant that specialized in Chinese food from the Dongbei region (aka Manchuria) of Northeast China bordering North Korea.
Noodles, spicy tofu, fried rice and lobsters/crayfish. It was one DELICIOUS meal and well worth the short ride to get here.

29 of 63 - Shopping Center near the Expo at the 2024 Nanjing Show
After a delicious lunch, we wander around the Changfa Plaza - the shopping center where our restaurant was located - to see what kind of shops are available.
We're surprised to find how Western this shopping center is in terms of the types of stores available. We even saw a kids' activity that we've never seen before involving fish!!!! We end the clip with a brief glimpse of the Apple Store in the mall that looks like every Apple store around the world.
And it's only a five-minute cab ride from the Expo Center!!!
