PostPosted: Dec 26, 2024 12:40    Post subject: Vesuvianite from Testa Ciarro Italy?

The label that came with this specimen gives the locality as "Testa Ciarro, Ala Piedmont, Italy" Could not find this place on Mindat or in a Google search. This mineral is found in many places in Italy. Specimen is about 5 cm across. Any suggestions about locality

Hi,

Maybe you may try ... Ala Valley, Piedmont.
This locality is in Mindat
https://www.mindat.org/loc-2106.html
And Testa Ciarro, is simply the pic where is said it has been found...
And besides, a green vesuvianite from Ala is found in Mindat (maybe more... simply too lazy to look at all...)

Hope it serves

Lluís

Maybe from Testa Ciarva, a well-known locality for Vesuvianites in Val d'Ala :

Testa Ciarva, Balme, Val d'Ala, Lanzo Valleys (Valli di Lanzo), Metropolitan City of Turin Province, Piedmont, Italy

Probably so, but as John Betts said many time ago, if not sure, we should place "probably from"... And in this case, even from Ala Valley, because is wrought "ala Piedmont"...
That is not exactly "Ala Valley, Piedmont", (nor in any eropean idiom I know....)
With best wishes

Lluís

Join the club! My labels are the old printed versions of my database, and only the database is correct as I regularly find things have changed (mine names can be corrected, townships checked, etc)
