Uffeln Quarry, Ibbenbüren, Steinfurt, Münsterland, North Rhine-Westphalia/Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany
 Dimensions: 10 x 8 x 7 cm aprox.
 Description:
Doubly-ended quartz, about 4 cm in size, in a siderite lined geode, coated by white calcite. Found by Gerrie Golstein (NL) in 1971.

A quite typical Uffeln specimen. However, one has to understand that Uffeln produced excellent rock crystals and smoky quartzes in alpine quality up to 25 cm...

Quite typical doesn't mean that it can't be very nice ;-) And a double-terminated, clear quartz on matrix, even if only 4 cm small, can be considered very nice! If only the largest and the best specimens would count, we wouldn't enjoy many minerals except for the MIM Museum in Beirut or the private collection of Adalberto Giazotto ;-)

Of course this can be called a fine quartz specimen, why not? I don´t have a bigger one from that locale, anyway...;-)
