Some news of a small, club run show on the 26 and 27 of March at the Holiday Inn, Holyoke, MA. More info can be obtained at:
https://www.cvmineralclub.org (link normalized by FMF)
The show has run for a number of years and has local and national dealers vending. The club sets up several cases for display by club members. The Connecticut Valley Mineral Club has existed since 1940. That reminds me, I must pay my dues. Good folks.

That's really nice looking prehnite, for Massachusetts (or anywhere)!
The large tabular blades covered with prehnite, I wonder if those are or were... anhydrite?

Were anhydrite, Pete, that's the general opinion. I guess you would call them casts. There are empty cavities in the center of the completely formed "fingers", with a rectangular cross section. The wafer shaped formations must have had paper thin anhydrite crystals judging by the way the prehnite curls over the edges. The "fingers" found in the Holyoke traps are very much like the one's from NJ., one difference being the individual prehnite crystals that make the aggregate form, are a bit larger, giving a rougher appearance.

Vic,
Thanks the post about the show. We have 24 great dealers this year. This show is the main fundraiser for the club to run. A good portion of the proceeds will go to our school eduacation kits, you can read more about those on the website. I hope to see you and Cindy this weekend.

You bet Lee. Maybe you could expand on the educational outreach the club does. I know you are looking for our castoffs to make small collections for classrooms, I wonder how thats going, and if it is growing? To encourage the study, or the awareness of natural history, brings enlightenment. Can't have too much of that, eh?

Vic,
It has grown. We have several members going to schools and doing presentations as well as all the kits we have already donated with 5 or 6 more going out this year as well. It has been more successfull than we could have imagined.
