Herkimer Diamonds with Metal inclusions such as Marcasite and Pyrite are very rare. Amongst these crystals it is even rarer to find Pyrite and the Rarest to find Fully Formed Pyrite Cubes. These almost never occur, and even if you know where to look you can go years without finding one, Marcasite, while still rare is more common.
This specimen features Fully Formed, Bright Gold Pyrite Cubes, completely encased within a floater of radiant gem quality, Herkimer Quartz, This makes for quite the combination aesthetically.
You can gaze into this HUGE gem for hours and never see it all. Its likes its own universe inside thishuge jewek. The quartz is RADIANT and FLAWLESS so you can really see this intricate details of this Marcasite/Pyrite City! Not a fracture to throw it off. The Quartz preserved this delicate metal for 500 million years and now we can still gaze at it in its origional splendor.
In addition to all the goodness mentioned there are also two Calcite crystals on this specimen, which make it even more rare and "collectable". One of these crystals is actually BELOW the surface of the Quartz due to a divet created by the marcasite!!!
There is a geologialy important moment, crystalized. I envision this GEM forming in a split second, the Pyrite Cubes seem to be "birthing" and crystaling as they emerge from the marcasite. Somehow this occurance was encased with the Herkimer Quartz.
A truely Unique and breathtaking specimen from good ol' NY state :)

Classic American Locality - Not much available from this location. I had to hunt this one down and harvest it from the Earth myself in order to get a good specimen from Kingston, NY :) Well worth the effort as I hit a good sized pocket while there, now I can share and help fill gaps in other collections.
